A Level Maths tutors for Pure, Mechanics and Statistics

Request a specialist for your syllabus and use a trial to check the teaching fit. Typically PKR 18,000–35,000 a month.

Quick answer

Cambridge A Level Mathematics (9709) is built from separate components — Pure Mathematics 1 and 3, with Mechanics and Probability & Statistics making up the rest. Most students in Pakistan take P1, P3, Mechanics and Statistics 1. Further Mathematics (9231) is a separate qualification. Al Noor Tuition matches students with specialists in each component, online or at home, from PKR 18,000 a month.

A Level Mathematics is the subject where the gap between school and examination is widest, because the components are genuinely different disciplines. A tutor who is excellent at Pure may be indifferent at Mechanics, and Statistics rewards a way of thinking that neither of the others uses.

It is also the subject where a weak O Level foundation is least survivable. Calculus assumes algebraic fluency absolutely, and a student who is still hesitant with indices, surds and factorising will find every new topic harder than it is.

How Cambridge A Level Mathematics is examined

Mathematics carries syllabus code 9709. Confirm the components your school has entered your child for before buying past papers — entries differ between schools and syllabuses are revised between cycles.

ComponentWhat it is
Pure Mathematics 1AS: quadratics, functions, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, series, differentiation and integration.
Pure Mathematics 3A2: algebra, logarithms and exponentials, advanced trigonometry, differentiation and integration techniques, numerical solutions, vectors and differential equations.
MechanicsForces and equilibrium, kinematics, Newton's laws, momentum, work, energy and power.
Probability & Statistics 1Representation of data, permutations and combinations, probability, discrete random variables and the normal distribution.
Further Mathematics (9231)A separate qualification taken alongside, covering further pure, further mechanics and further statistics. Required or strongly preferred by some engineering and mathematics degrees.

Where A Level Mathematics marks are actually lost

Algebra that is correct but slow

At A Level algebra is not the question, it is the handwriting. A student who has to think about factorising has no attention left for the calculus the question is actually testing, and runs out of time as well as accuracy.

Mechanics attempted without a diagram

Almost every mechanics question becomes tractable once forces are drawn and resolved, and almost every lost mechanics mark belongs to an attempt made without drawing.

Statistics answered without stating the distribution

Marks are given for identifying the model and its parameters before any calculation. Students who jump to the arithmetic lose method marks they had already earned in their head.

What a term of A Level Mathematics tutoring looks like

  1. 1

Weeks 1–3: algebraic fluency to automatic

Indices, surds, partial fractions and factorising drilled until they need no thought. This is the single highest-return work in the subject and it is almost always skipped.

  2. 2

The teaching year: components taught as different subjects

Pure, Mechanics and Statistics each get their own rhythm and their own past-paper practice, because a student can be a grade apart across them.

  3. 3

The final term: timed components and examiner reports

Full papers per component under timing, reviewed against mark schemes and examiner reports so the student sees what was actually being rewarded.

Topics covered

  • Quadratics, functions and transformations
  • Coordinate geometry and circles
  • Trigonometry and identities
  • Differentiation and applications
  • Integration and areas
  • Logarithms, exponentials and differential equations
  • Vectors and numerical methods
  • Mechanics: forces, kinematics and energy
  • Statistics: probability and the normal distribution

Before booking a A Level Mathematics tutor

  1. Confirm syllabus 9709, the examination year and the assessment route with your school.
  2. Bring marked work so the tutor can identify a specific learning gap and explain a plan.
  3. Check the teacher’s relevant experience and ask the student to attempt a fresh task during the trial.
  4. Agree weekly lesson time, independent practice, progress review and the actual fee.

A Level Mathematics tutoring — your questions answered

Does my child need Additional Mathematics before A Level Maths?

It is not required, but students who took 4037 start with calculus already familiar and find the first term markedly easier. Students arriving from 4024 alone can absolutely succeed — they simply need the algebra and early calculus consolidated deliberately in the first few weeks rather than assumed.

Should we take Further Mathematics?

If the destination is engineering, mathematics or a competitive overseas university, it helps and is sometimes expected. If mathematics is a supporting subject, a strong 9709 grade is worth more than a stretched Further Maths result.

How much does an A Level Maths tutor cost in Pakistan?

PKR 18,000–35,000 a month one-to-one, at the upper end for Further Mathematics or for covering several components at once. The first lesson is free.

Can one tutor teach Pure, Mechanics and Statistics?

Many can, but it is worth asking rather than assuming — they are different disciplines and tutors are rarely equally strong in all three. We match on the components you actually need and will say plainly when a second tutor would serve a student better.
