About the test
The TOEFL iBT is taken on a computer, at a test centre or at home. Since January 2026 it has four sections — Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking — with new task types such as Complete the Words, Build a Sentence, Write an Email and Take an Interview. Reading and Listening are adaptive: how you do in the first part decides how hard the second part is. Each section and the overall result are reported on a 1–6 scale in half-point steps aligned with the CEFR, with a 0–120 score alongside it for a transition period.
