O Level Maths tutors for 4024 — including the non-calculator paper

Request a specialist for your syllabus and use a trial to check the teaching fit. Typically PKR 15,000–27,000 a month.

Quick answer

For the 2025–2027 syllabus, Cambridge O Level Mathematics (4024, "Maths D") has two equally weighted papers, each 2 hours and 100 marks. Paper 1 is non-calculator and Paper 2 requires a scientific calculator. Additional Mathematics (4037) is a separate syllabus. Al Noor Tuition helps families request specialists online or at home, with the scope and fee confirmed before starting.

Mathematics is the subject where gaps compound. A student who never became fluent with fractions in Class 7 meets them again disguised inside algebra in Class 9, and again inside trigonometry at O Level, and each time loses marks for a reason that has nothing to do with the topic being examined.

That is why a maths tutor who simply works through the next exercise rarely changes much. The work that changes a grade is diagnostic: find the specific foundation that broke, rebuild it, and then the current topic becomes learnable at ordinary speed.

How Cambridge O Level Mathematics is examined

Mathematics carries syllabus code 4024. Confirm the components your school has entered your child for before buying past papers — entries differ between schools and syllabuses are revised between cycles.

ComponentWhat it is
Paper 1For 2025–2027: 100 marks, 2 hours, 50% of the qualification. Calculators are not allowed; practise hand methods and clear working.
Paper 2For 2025–2027: 100 marks, 2 hours, 50% of the qualification. A scientific calculator is required; practise accurate calculation and clear working.
Additional Mathematics (4037)A separate syllabus and entry, two papers of 80 marks each, covering calculus, functions, binomial expansion and kinematics. Taken alongside 4024 by students heading for A Level Maths or engineering.

Where O Level Mathematics marks are actually lost

Paper 1 prepared for with a calculator in hand

Students revise using a calculator all year and then sit a two-hour paper without one. Non-calculator arithmetic is a trainable skill and it decays without practice; we set Paper 1 work under Paper 1 conditions from the first week.

Working omitted on method-mark questions

A structured question worth four marks usually awards three of them for method. A wrong final answer with correct working scores far more than a bare wrong answer, and students who write nothing down make every mistake maximally expensive.

Premature rounding

Rounding at an intermediate step and carrying the rounded figure forward loses accuracy marks on questions the student has genuinely solved — a silent, repeated, entirely avoidable loss.

What a term of O Level Mathematics tutoring looks like

  1. 1

Weeks 1–2: find the broken foundation

A diagnostic that deliberately reaches back below the current syllabus. The answer is usually two or three specific things, not "maths".

  2. 2

The teaching term: rebuild, then move forward

The foundation topics are rebuilt to fluency while the current syllabus is taught in parallel, so the student is not held back a year to fix a gap from three years ago.

  3. 3

The last eight weeks: two papers, two disciplines

Practise Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 2 with a scientific calculator. In the 2025–2027 syllabus both papers take two hours and are equally weighted, so timed preparation should include both.

Topics covered

  • Number, fractions, ratio and percentages
  • Algebra, equations and inequalities
  • Functions and graphs
  • Trigonometry and bearings
  • Mensuration and geometry
  • Vectors, matrices and transformations
  • Statistics and probability
  • Additional Maths: calculus and binomial expansion

Before booking a O Level Mathematics tutor

  1. Confirm syllabus 4024, the examination year and the assessment route with your school.
  2. Bring marked work so the tutor can identify a specific learning gap and explain a plan.
  3. Check the teacher’s relevant experience and ask the student to attempt a fresh task during the trial.
  4. Agree weekly lesson time, independent practice, progress review and the actual fee.

O Level Mathematics tutoring — your questions answered

Should my child take Additional Mathematics?

If they are heading for A Level Mathematics, engineering or an entry test with a heavy quantitative section, yes — it makes the first term of A Level Maths dramatically easier because calculus is already familiar. If mathematics is a requirement rather than a direction, a strong grade in 4024 is worth more than a weak one in 4037.

How do you prepare for the non-calculator paper?

By practising without one from the beginning, not in the last month. Paper 1 fluency is a habit, and a student who has used a calculator all year will lose ten to fifteen marks to arithmetic they could do on paper in January.

How much does an O Level Maths tutor cost in Pakistan?

PKR 15,000–27,000 a month for one-to-one lessons two or three times a week. Additional Mathematics is usually at the upper end because the pool of tutors who teach it well is smaller. The first lesson is free.

Can maths be taught well online?

Yes — arguably better than most subjects. A shared whiteboard lets the tutor watch the student work a problem line by line and interrupt at the exact step that goes wrong, which is the part that matters. Lessons can be recorded free on request, so a method can be replayed.
