Cambridge IGCSE · Syllabus 0625

IGCSE Physics tutors for Extended-tier marks

Request a specialist for your syllabus and use a trial to check the teaching fit. Typically PKR 15,000–27,000 a month.

Quick answer

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) is tiered: Core candidates sit the Core theory papers with a maximum grade of C, and Extended candidates sit the Extended papers with access to A*. All candidates also sit a practical paper, in most Pakistani schools the alternative to practical. Al Noor Tuition matches students with 0625 specialists online and at home.

As with IGCSE Mathematics, the tier is the decision that matters most. An Extended entry is the difference between a ceiling of C and access to A*, and the Extended-only content is exactly where those top grades are decided.

Beyond the tier, IGCSE Physics fails students in the same place O Level does: numerical questions where the answer is written without the working, and a practical paper treated as an afterthought when it is a technique paper worth a substantial share of the marks.

How Cambridge IGCSE Physics is examined

Physics carries syllabus code 0625. Confirm the components your school has entered your child for before buying past papers — entries differ between schools and syllabuses are revised between cycles.

ComponentWhat it is
Papers 1 & 2Multiple choice — Core (Paper 1) or Extended (Paper 2), according to the entry.
Papers 3 & 4Theory — Core (Paper 3) or Extended (Paper 4). Extended carries the content that decides A and A* grades.
Paper 5 or 6Practical test (Paper 5) or alternative to practical (Paper 6). Most students in Pakistan sit Paper 6.

Where IGCSE Physics marks are actually lost

Extended-only content taught thinly

A class containing both tiers is often taught towards the Core, and the Extended material — momentum, more demanding electromagnetism, the harder numericals — is covered at speed. That content is where the top grades live.

Numerical answers without substitution

Formula, substitution, unit. Each is separately creditable, and a bare wrong answer throws away marks the student had already earned by knowing what to do.

Paper 6 never taught as its own skill

Reading instruments to the right precision, identifying uncontrolled variables and suggesting improvements are examinable skills that need no physics and are rarely taught deliberately.

What a term of IGCSE Physics tutoring looks like

  1. 1

Week 1: confirm the tier and the entry

Assess honestly against Extended papers and raise it with the school early if the entry undersells the student.

  2. 2

The teaching term: Extended content early

The Extended-only topics taught first, drilled with topical past papers, so they are secure rather than rushed.

  3. 3

The last eight weeks: papers and the practical

Timed theory papers plus dedicated Paper 6 sessions on precision, error and experimental design.

Topics covered

  • Motion, forces and momentum
  • Work, energy, power and pressure
  • Thermal physics and kinetic theory
  • Waves, light and sound
  • Electricity and circuits
  • Electromagnetism and induction
  • Atomic and nuclear physics
  • Experimental technique and precision

Before booking a IGCSE Physics tutor

  1. Confirm syllabus 0625, the examination year and the assessment route with your school.
  2. Bring marked work so the tutor can identify a specific learning gap and explain a plan.
  3. Check the teacher’s relevant experience and ask the student to attempt a fresh task during the trial.
  4. Agree weekly lesson time, independent practice, progress review and the actual fee.

IGCSE Physics tutoring — your questions answered

Is IGCSE Physics the same as O Level Physics?

They are different Cambridge qualifications of comparable standard — 0625 is tiered into Core and Extended, while O Level 5054 is not. Universities treat them as equivalent. Which one a student sits is normally the school's decision.

How do I know whether my child is entered for Core or Extended?

Ask the school directly, and ask early — the entry caps the achievable grade at C for Core candidates. It is the first thing our tutors check, because no amount of good teaching raises a grade above the ceiling the entry has set.

How much does an IGCSE Physics tutor cost?

PKR 15,000–27,000 a month one-to-one, first lesson free. Overseas families are taught online at the same rates, usually in the evening Pakistan time.

Do you teach Edexcel International GCSE Physics too?

Yes. Edexcel IGCSE Physics is untiered and structured differently from Cambridge, so tell us the board when you enquire and we will match a tutor who has taught it. Syllabus codes and paper structures change between cycles — check your school entry against the current syllabus before buying past papers.
