In a Norwegian statement the verb is always the second element: Jeg snakker norsk. · I dag snakker jeg norsk. When something else comes first, the subject moves to just after the verb.
| Jeg snakker norsk. | Say yai snakuhr noshk. | یائی سناکَر نوشک. | Means: I speak Norwegian. |
| I dag snakker jeg norsk. | Say ee dag snakuhr yai noshk. | ای داگ سناکَر یائی نوشک. | Means: Today I am speaking Norwegian. |
A question with a question word starts with that word, then the verb: Hvor bor du? · Hva gjør du? Yes/no questions start with the verb: Bor du i Oslo?

| Hva gjør du? | Say va yoer doo? | وا یوےر دُو? | Means: What are you doing? / What do you do? |

Question words
ikke (not) comes straight after the verb: Jeg snakker ikke norsk. · Jeg forstår ikke.

Jeg lærer norsk i dag. → I dag lærer jeg norsk. → Norsk lærer jeg i dag.
